new moon stills

diablo cody (left picture) is the oscar-winning writer of my favorite ellen page movie "juno".

today she was tweeting about twilight hearththrob rob pattinson.

here are her tweets:

#1 Here's how old/uncool I am: Saw R. Pattison at a party a few months ago and was like "Are you in a movie, sweetie?" This really happened.

#2 Pattison continued: I bummed a light from him and went on my merry way. Noticed young girls hyperventilating and took note.

#3 Don't get me wrong-- the man is stunning. It just takes me a little longer to catch on to major trends.

#4 Uh, I misspelled "Pattinson" on purpose to underscore how trend-illiterate I am. Yeah. That's it.

cody used to be a stripper.

meanwhile here are some stills from the twilight sequel new moon's trailer that premiered tonight at the mtv movie awards where, not surprisingly, twilight dominated and scooped all awards it was nominated for.

for tita amie and yvonne :)

shocker, shocker!

final score: 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6

it's inconceivable!

rafael nadal lost to a swede, who before today, was virtually unknown and never got past the 3rd round of any of the four major tennis tournaments. so sad.

today, robin soderling handed rafa his only defeat on the fabled rolland garros clay court. rafa ruled the french for four years and won 31 consecutive matches since his debut in 2005.

:(

i still can't believe it! i thought my sunday would be a good one after a gruelling week at work. i was working all-day saturday and had to miss a party at california wok to celebrate the los alamitos bar/resto's grand "reopening" after expanding its banquet hall. i had to miss the show specially conceived by my good friend joseph gelito (alhough i was told there is a video that i can watch)

i was in high spirits today - looking forward to a long day of rest, you know :) i got off the bed at about 1130am to check if there's anything in the fridge that's edible in 5 minutes. i found nothing - and my day is off to a rough start.

then i opened my basic cable (yeah, it's still got some use) to check what's on tv. i was expecting the usual news and game results from the french open. luckily, rafa's 4th round game was being aired on nbc 4. but i immediately paused and asked myself why it is on tv - i thought that was unusual. normally, tennis games don't get this rare airtime unless it's the finals, or the semi-finals even - this was the 4th round! something was wrong... i tuned in, forgetting that i was hungry. when the score flashed, rafa was down a set. so that was it. an upset might have occured. that perhaps rafa lost? no way he could lose!!! no way.

that score had me glued to my tv. i found myself completely lost in the game quietly rooting for nadal to take out his usual game and show the young swede who's the king. but rafa just couldn't pull it off this time. it was painful to watch him lose. quite so painful. :( :(
i don't know what happened after. when the final score flashed, my tv went dark.

i was supposed to meet with tony v. tita evelyn, tita minda, and tita jo (tita evelyn's sister, erlinda would later join us) and i completely forgot about it. at quarter past two, tita erlinda was calling me and i didn't notice it until it was nearly 3 when i checked my voice mail and got her multiple messages.

i am always late. they were actually expecting that i would be late, so it didn't matter that i was late again today. but i had a good excuse. rafa lost.

would roger federer be able to take this year's championship now that rafa is out? i think he could but my money is on russian nicolay davedynko now. why? just a hunch. i had to pull a name and he seems to have the easiest route to the championship.

weekend update. UP is, well, up there in the box office race. With an estimated weekend take north of $65 mil, the disney pixar animation toppled last week's leader night at the museum. but up can't top the shock of rafa's unexpected defeat today. i need a drink. i don't care if there's work in the morning. need to have one....

who is princess velasco???

and i thought the hayden kho - katrina halili indie film brouhaha is over. apparently, the juicier details have yet to come out. hmmm...

i received an email from my pretty friend jennifer today and as much as i want to veer away from the unpleasantness of this public spectacle, i'm afraid my friend sally will have to sit out this post. lol.

here are two pictures and the text of the accompanying story from my email. completely unedited.

****

Who is Princess Velasco?

Princess Velasco is the Institutional Marketing Manager of the Belo Medical Group Why is her name being dragged in the Hayden Scandal? She allegedly had an affair with Hayden while they both worked at the Belo clinic.

Velasco’s boyfriend, a certain Bistek, who is a friend of Hayden, reportedly learned about the affair which Princess allegedly confessed. The couple then went to see Dr. Vicky Belo (Hayden’s known girlfriend) and reported Hayden’s infidelity.

Princess then supposedly told Belo that Hayden has been keeping videos of his sexual encounters with different women in the condo unit provided by Belo. Belo then asked another friend of Hayden, Eric Chua, to take Hayden’s laptop from his condo unit and confiscate the hard drive containing the videos.

"laodicean"

that's the winning word.

as predicted, kavya shivishankar won the national spelling bee held tonight in d.c. she bested 293 other spellers.

here's the report from AP

13-year-old girl wins US National Spelling Bee
By Joseph White, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – Cool and collected, Kavya Shivashankar wrote out every word on her palm and always ended with a smile. The 13-year-old Kansas girl saved the biggest smile for last, when she rattled off the letters to "Laodicean" to become the nation's spelling champion.
The budding neurosurgeon from Kansas outlasted 11 finalists Thursday night to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee, taking home more than $40,000 in cash and prizes and, of course, the huge champion's trophy.

After spelling the winning word, which means lukewarm or indifferent in religion or politics, Kavya got huge hugs from her father, mother and little sister.

Kavya was making her fourth appearance at the bee, having finishing 10th, eighth and fourth over the last three years. She enjoys playing the violin, bicycling, swimming and learning Indian classical dance, and her role model is Nupur Lala, the 1999 champion featured in the documentary "Spellbound."

Second place went to 12-year-old Tim Ruiter of Virginia, the only non-teenager in the finals. He misspelled "maecenas," which means a cultural benefactor.

Aishwarya Pastapur, 13, from Illinois, who loved to pump her arm and exclaim "Yes!" after getting a word correct, finished third after flubbing "menhir", a type of monolith.

sharon & kc!

Filipina megastar Sharon Cuneta and daughter, KC Concepcion, who is a big star herself, performed during the memorial weekend holiday at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and in Reno, Nevada.

Tita Jackie Regala of Katz Entertainment reported that both shows were hugely successful. I personally know of some out-of-state fans who came to watch the mother-daughter tandem perform.

Los Angeles fans need not worry. Sharon & KC will hit the southland on June 12 when they perform at the Shrine Auditorium.

Below is an excerpt of a review of the Paris Las Vegas show written by Dymphna Calica-La Putt:

Mega 30 concert
Sharon Cuneta's show last Saturday, May 23rd was a mega-success. Aiming to relive her 30 years in Philippine show business thru her songs, the MegaThirty USA concert tour kicked off at the Paris Las Vegas that night. And relive was what her fans did that night.

Clad in a shiny black ensemble, the Megastar belted out songs that she made over the past three decades and that made her the well-loved movie star that she is. From the cutesy Mr. DJ, to the haunting Kahit Konting Pagtingin, to the cult-favorite Maging Sino Ka Man, Sharon did not disappoint fans who were longing for a trip down memory lane with their idol.

The highlight of reminiscing came when KC Concepcion, Sharon's 24-year old daughter, came on stage to sing the theme from Dear Heart with her. Dear Heart was the first movie that Sharon Cuneta made with former love teammate and erstwhile husband Gabby Concepcion. This movie changed my life forever, she told her teary-eyed audience that night.

While KC stayed on to sing a couple more songs from her own album, fans commented on how she talked like her mom and looked like her dad. Obviously, the sight of KC brought back memories of a young Sharon to most of the audience.... Sharon also sang songs that showcased her vocal abilities. While the youthful crystal-clear voice that audience first heard 30 years ago- was replaced by a deeper, more mature tone, her emotive ability remained spectacular.

who is abby?

no disrespect to the late francis magalona but someone sent me below pictures and i thought i'd share them with you.

the guy lo0ks strikingly like the late filipino rapper. the girl's name is supposed to be "abby" and they were supposed to be a couple. never heard of any rumors linking francis m to anybody before, so this could not be real, but judge for yourself.

here are the pictures.

go nerds!

the national spelling bee airs tonight from washington d.c. on abc.

and just to be clear, this post's title is by no means an affront. if you search related stories about this week's bee championship, all spellers agree to only one thing: nerds rule - if only this week, that is.

13 year old and 3-time finalist kavya shivashankar (pictured studying) is expected to take the crown this year.

here are some pictures taken during today's (may 27, 2009) qualifying rounds.
